What is the purpose of a speaker amp?
I am interested in purchasing a high-quality bookshelf speaker system for my room. I have a bunch of lossless audio files on my computer/ipod and a bunch of cd’s. I from what I understand, using high-end speakers will help to take advantage of quality of these files. Anyway, when i look online or at stores, I always see these speaker amps/preamps. What are the purpose of these? I don’t quite understand them. Do they make your speakers louder or what? (i don’t want them to be excessively loud or anything). Will they help bring out the quality of my music collection?
PCs can’t drive speakers that are more powerful than a few watts.
You need to a pair of self-powered speakers (you simply connect them to power outlet); so these speakers have a small built-in amp to impove sound.
